Strengthening International Partnerships: Global Peace Chain Zambia Engages U.S. Embassy Officials

Global Peace Chain Zambia, in collaboration with the African Youth Pact for Development and Diplomacy (AfriPact) and the Independent Continental Youth Advisory Council to the AfCFTA (ICOYACA) Zambia Chapter, recently participated in a high-level strategic meeting with senior officials from the U.S. Embassy in Zambia. The engagement marked an important step toward building stronger institutional partnerships, expanding opportunities for young people and advancing collaborative initiatives focused on leadership, diplomacy and sustainable development.

The meeting brought together representatives from the three organizations and officials from the U.S. Embassy, including J. Spencer Driscoll, Deputy Political-Economic Chief and Max Arcand from the Public Affairs Section. The discussions centered on identifying areas of mutual interest and exploring pathways for long-term cooperation between civil society organizations and diplomatic institutions.

The joint delegation was led by Amb. Maxwell Banda, Country Director of Global Peace Chain Zambia, and included Emmanuel Kalei of AfriPact, Suwilanji Ngoma of ICOYACA Zambia Chapter, GPC Ambassador Peter Chikwampu, Evelyn Sanjambela, and GPC Ambassador Andrew Junior Mwima.

Throughout the meeting, participants engaged in meaningful discussions on youth diplomacy programming, international cooperation frameworks, civic engagement opportunities, governance dialogue and administrative capacity-building initiatives. Particular attention was given to creating platforms that empower young people to participate actively in leadership and development processes at local, regional, and international levels.

One of the most significant outcomes of the engagement was the strengthening of institutional linkages between Global Peace Chain Zambia, AfriPact, ICOYACA Zambia Chapter and the U.S. Embassy. These strengthened relationships are expected to create new opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange in the future.

The delegation also received confirmation regarding participation in Embassy-affiliated events, opening doors for greater visibility, networking opportunities and meaningful contributions to discussions on youth development and public diplomacy. Additionally, access was granted to the American Spaces network located at the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA), Copperbelt University (CBU), and the U.S. Embassy. These venues provide valuable resources and platforms for youth-focused programming, training sessions, workshops, and community engagement initiatives.

The meeting further explored potential funding opportunities for future youth-led programs and projects, subject to available resources and upcoming funding windows. Embassy officials also expressed support for administrative capacity-building initiatives, including opportunities to engage with visiting and local American experts who can contribute specialized knowledge and mentorship.

This strategic engagement represents a significant milestone for Global Peace Chain Zambia and its partner organizations. By establishing stronger diplomatic and institutional connections, the organizations are better positioned to expand their impact, enhance program delivery and create meaningful opportunities for young leaders across Zambia.

Looking ahead, the delegation will focus on formalizing communication with the Embassy, coordinating activities through the American Spaces network, identifying upcoming collaborative opportunities and monitoring future funding announcements. These next steps will help transform the outcomes of the meeting into tangible programs that benefit young people and strengthen international cooperation.

As Global Peace Chain Zambia continues its mission of empowering youth and promoting peacebuilding, partnerships such as this demonstrate the importance of dialogue, collaboration and shared commitment to creating a more inclusive and prosperous future. The engagement with the U.S. Embassy Zambia serves as a powerful example of how strategic cooperation can unlock new opportunities for youth leadership, civic participation and sustainable development.
