My name is Victor Cristino Lopez Cayetano and I am 27 years old. I belong to the Garifuna
Community of the municipality of Santa Fe, in the Department of Colon, in the northern part of
Honduras. I am a school teacher of my mother tongue, Garifuna. I teach at the community of
Masca in Cortes. This language program is part of the government initiative project to rescue the
Garifuna culture. This program forms bilingual Intercultural schools and it is better known as the
EIB program. I am proactive, dynamic, and possess a lot of knowledge which allows me to continue
learning and growing every day. I graduated from the training school for Afro-descendant leaders
in Human Rights promoted by ODECO, an organization in charge of ethnical development and I
also participated in the world summit of Afro-descendants promoted by this same organization. In
addition, I volunteer for Go-Joven Honduras and I participated in the training process of the
project “Together preventing pregnancy in adolescence in Honduras”. I am proud to say I also
participated in the local approach to crimes of commercial sexual exploitation and human
trafficking facilitated by the Institutional Commission against Commercial Sexual Exploitation and
Trafficking in Honduras (CICESCT). As a young Garifuna within my community, I continually
participate in projects in which ideas arise to develop our municipality.
