In terms of professional life, Satiam Gokool is a a qualified accountant where has worked as auditor and is now currently working as a consultant where he basically try to identify ways to improve a company’s performance.

Several notable projects which I have contributed :
1) Anou Kompren Nu Soicete
Since 2016, JCI Curepipe has been working on a project titled ‘Anou Kompren Nu Societé’ –
Combating Drug Abuse. This project was an outcome of the community needs analysis within
the JCI Active Citizenship Framework (ACF). The strategy decided was to conduct
‘Neighbourhood Watch’ in the regions of Curepipe where the drug rate is the highest according
to the statistics provided by Statistics Mauritius, Municipal Councillors and Crime Prevention
Unit.

2) Green Actions initiative

Bearing in mind the scarcity of vegetables and fruits faced during last years’ Covid-19 lockdown
and where people realised the importance of having a home garden, this is how JCI Curepipe
came up with a sustainable project to help people to have vegetables and fruits in the long term
through the Seed Library. In fact JCI Curepipe is the first organization to have launched the first
Seed Library in Mauritius.

We implemented the Seed Library with the aim to make seeds accessible freely to everyone
while also encourage people to share their part of excess seeds.

The Seed Library has been such a success in 2020 that this year again we will implement more
seed libraries in other supermarkets to reach even more people.

3) Sustainable Waste Management Challenge

Basically we don’t want to only rebuild our economies, we want to also ensure that it is done in a
sustainable manner. Our goals through this project is to ultimately promote knowledge of sustainable waste management among Mauritian citizens, to enable ideas on Sustainable Waste Management through idea generation and capacity building sessions and of course to contribute towards a greener Mauritius.
