My name is Salem, I’m 26 from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Growing up in a capital city gave me many opportunities, starting from easy access to education to an easy lifestyle. I only have one elder sibling and I’m the last and only female child in my family. My parents raised us to be independent in deciding and choosing our own interests. And I always wanted to be a leader in something, that’s why in school, I tried to practice it in many school activities. For instance, I would volunteer for a charity club, be a leader in a group project, even I was a class representative. I think practicing leadership at such an age helped me to improve my communication skills, enhance my confidence and manage peace work with various students. And I am lucky enough to accomplish every task and obstacle because of what I managed growing up. Professionally, I am an architect and interior designer, I also have bachelor arts in management. Currently, I’m practicing architecture and interior design as a career. My experience in professional, educational, and community services helped me to understand one individual can make a change. It helped me to gain confidence in what I do and how to achieve my dreams. I am also a volunteer and vice president of a youth empowerment organization named the Inspired Ethiopian Youth Association (IEYA).
