My name is Rishard Khan, 26, MSc in Sustainability graduate from the United Nations University – Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability. Throughout my life I have always taken a keen interest in activities surrounding social development, and helping people (book drives, awareness campaigns, community outreach activities, etc). In my adult life, I have been able to make strides on my own to network and positively impact the world as much as possible throughout my various activities, such as: Coordinating multiple cleanups throughout the island of Grenada, including being the data coordinator for ICC’s coastal cleanup day in 2015 for Grenada, performing educational and awareness raising outreach campaigns for both schools and the public on environmental issues, and being involved with one of the working teams for the World Water Project and the Knowledge Action Networks (KAN’s) development. I continue to be involved in such activities to this day, not the least of which include being a lead author for Grenada’s National Ecosystem Assessment, as helping my Japanese colleagues seek out opportunities to bring cultural exchange opportunities to schools. My long-term life goal is to be a part of the ‘sustainability wave’, as I see it. Sustainability, in all it’s facets, is an approach that needs to be adopted for us, as a global collective, to move forward. Like a wave from the ocean, it may not be visible to some, but it is coming, it will be powerful in its effects, and I wish to be a part of it.
