As a young woman from the Global South, an issue that speak to my heart is climate justice. Over the past years as a student researcher on sustainable development, I have noticed that this topic is not properly explored by environmental policy or gender issues, both nationally and globally. I attended COP21 with the Brazil delegation and followed the human rights negotiations, with a focus on gender and other vulnerable groups. I then joined the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network to write about women leaders taking the stand in climate action, highlighting their work as part of the WomenSpeak project, which inspired me greatly. Because of my passion for SDG 5 and 13, I have been selected to present a research paper on gender equality and climate finance in Bangladesh. Furthermore, I was invited to pitch about women’s voices in the environmental sector in China, at Peking University.
