Mauritius

I’m Ameegah Paul from Morcellement VRS Bel-Air Surinam, Mauritius. I’m only 22 years old and was born with a Cerebral palsy.
Being someone with a Cerebral palsy, nothing is easy for me. Lots of ups and down in my daily lives but this doesn’t stop me from helping others in the society. Since a young age, I’m a volunteer in the Mercy care Home of Riambel where I help to serve food. But this doesn’t stop here, growing up I saw that the society is lots of discrimination for people with Disabilities like me and having been gone through sexual harassment, this pushed me to stand up and create my own NGO VisioNew which has aims to fight against violence on women. My members and myself has been working hard to create awareness in different part of the Island. We have been working hard to push women victims of domestic violence out of their silence and it was a success but we still have long way to go in order to reach out to more women suffering in Silence. Secondly, we have been organizing Pacific March against Domestic violence and sexual abuse in different parts of Mauritius where we got a real support from many people who believe in us. Using social media, to spread awareness is something which I do everyday. Along with the sensibilization about violence, I have join the youth centre of Plapemousse to participate in various Art competitions and I have won many prizes. Participating in these competition means breaking the barriers between “normal and Differently-Able people ” in the society. I have been volunteer with the Passerelle women Centre in order to bring my knowledge to the residents there. I have aso been volunteer working to an Ashram in order to provide psychological help to the residents. I have organized numerous activities and events in different old age home, different places of Mauritius and in numerous schools. I have done Donation of food Packs and necessary things in period of cyclone, Coronavirus and in another situation. To create awareness on different topics, I was on different Radio namely : Radio Plus, Radio 1, Top FM and MBC. Recently I have join the Association pour la Protection des droits des Handicapés where I got nominated as Event Coordinator and Treasure of the Association. APDH aims to bring positive changes in the society for people with Disabilities. I took part in many event when I was invited to deliver Motivational and inspiring messages to youngsters all around and also to create awareness on drugs. As a Motivational speaker, I help people with depression, anxiety, stress, bully at work, at university, College or burnout with work pressure, personality problems (low self-esteem, negative thinking of oneself, limiting beliefs), parents having difficulties to cope with their teenagers, Students having difficulties to cope with their Studies. I have help many people in our community with different types of problems. I want to spread further my knowledge across every community in our Island. There are a lot of people suffering silently without reaching out for help. So, I want to reach out to these people and guide them towards a positive life. I believe that everyone deserves to lead a stress-Free life.
