Mauritius

I am a young Mauritian, who has more than 10 years of volunteering in various axes such as the fight against poverty, the eradication of injustices and inequalities, the protection of the environment and human rights.

My journey begins in the early 2000s when for the very first time, I was going to see the suffering of people. About a hundred families found themselves on the streets overnight because they occupied land that belonged to the State. It was by following my mother, who prepared and shared the meal there, that I realized that we were not all equal. That social class wasn’t just what we were taught in books, but that it was real and the truth was hard.

Since then, I have joined many associations in Mauritius and abroad where I have given my time, my energy and my enthusiasm to the projects in which I was involved. During my studies in France, I participated in various marauding and I wanted to transmit this to Mauritius.

For 3 or 4 years, I have been very interested in the objective 4 of sustainable development of the United Nations. I developed it at length during the writing of my master’s thesis and also in action. I joined an association based in Senegal more than a year ago and aims to fight against female poverty and environmental pollution in rural areas of Senegal.

I wish to participate at my level and trying to promote a message of peace around me. I could have spoken to you at greater length about other projects (such as the working conditions of artisanal mines in Colombia or the minors who are incarcerated in prisons in Benin, a fight that I joined last year as a ‘ambassador). I will end with a quote from Mother Theresa: “We realize that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But if this drop did not exist in the ocean, it would be missing.”
