Mrs. Mary Ann Grace B. Dulay is a licensed professional teacher who is adept in classroom instruction, development of instruction plans, and parent-teacher relations. She knows her students well enough to know what instructional techniques and activities best engage them. Due to this desire, she sets high standards and high expectations for all students.
She has a deep desire in improving the science instruction. She has introduced teaching innovations to improve students’ achievement, attitude, and motivation in the subject which are all been recognized by DepEd and being used by other schools in Pangasinan Division II. As a matter of fact, she has prepared and implemented five Strategic Intervention Materials, four Students’ Learning Modules, fifteen innovative teaching strategies, and ten improvised/localized teaching devices in her seven years of teaching as a public secondary science teacher. Furthermore, she makes colorful Computer Aided Instructions (CAIs) to teach the current topic instead of standing in front of her students lecturing for a period, putting them to sleep like many teachers do.
Introducing these innovations in her science class in different school years led to the improvement of students’ performance in the National Achievement Test and lowered the failure rate in her subject. Aside from implementing innovative strategies, she already prepared and completed three action researches focusing on curriculum and instruction. Hence, classroom problems were solved at once without making it as a more serious drawback.
Flexibility is her extremely important quality for she always extends her teaching hours to students who have difficulty in understanding science concepts. With this, she religiously extends her support to failing students and Students At Risk in Dropping Out (SARDO) by conducting remedial classes. Alarmed with the increasing failure and drop-out rate, different intervention measures were implemented by Mrs. Dulay. She closely monitors the attendance and performance of these hard-up students by conducting home visitation during Saturdays and Sundays. Teacher-made learning materials were also given to them in order to cope with their missed lessons. She truly possesses the knowledge and skills to engage every student in her lessons, knows how to help all students achieve high goals, and displays a high competency in curriculum and standards.
As a 21st century teacher, she develops her students to be a global citizen with good communication skills, critical and logical thinking skills. She actively involves her students in different research forums to share their researches to be adopted by the research community. Likewise, school leadership trainings and science camps were spearheaded by Mrs. Dulay to forge deeper understanding of the role of Science Club movement in the promotion of Science, Technology and environment as vehicle to achieve national development.
The implementation of different innovative teaching strategies, learning materials, and improvised teaching devices develop scientific literacy among learners that prepared them to be informed and participative citizens. Her genuine concern in the delivery of science instruction even in inclusive education for visually impaired students gave her the idea in coming up of designing improvised teaching devices since none of the materials are available in the school for teaching such cases. This led to the improvement on the science performance of visually impaired students in every grading period.
Aside from being an innovative teacher, she is an active community worker as she introduces PROJECT WE INNOVATE and PROJECT PAGASA. With this initiated project, it develops awareness on the integration of Sustainable Development Goals and Global Citizenship Education in teaching, creates interest on how to become a steward of environment; inculcates values on conserving the resources of nature; and trains members of the community to be prepared in times of disaster.
