“Later on in life, it is neither your successes nor your conquests that will give you satisfaction. But paying back what you owe the community that nurtured you.” This is what I personally believe in ever since I was provided with the chance to be a leader in the community in high school. I think that whatever we do in this lifetime should always be anchored in helping other people achieve their fullest potential and to ensure that fairness and integrity govern among people and institutions. I am most passionate about is bringing about empowerment to the community that will actively involve them in political processes to assure that the government is held accountable for all of its actions. In my country, it has been always talked about how rampant corruption is but I think what’s more alarming is that more people become more apathetic regarding this resulting to a culture of bad governance for years now. And this is what I wanted to change: everyone longs for peace but not considering that in order to achieve peace, we have to have strong, accountable institutions that delivers. I think that more than war, it’s the indirect implications of poverty, misinformation, corruption that destroys us more. It’s always the silence and the apathy of people that scream the loudest in times of necessity so I would want to change that through my involvements and show that peace can be best achieved when we work together in creating an inclusive society for everyone.
