I am Maddalena, I am 15 years old and I have important dreams to achieve in my life.
Maybe because even if I am only 15 I feel like I am supposed to do something, in order to change
this world. This may sound simple to say, but I truly believe I could do something about it because I
believe in people and in our future, but most of all, I believe in the world I live in.
My generation is not just the one of Tik Tok. There are people studying for MUNs (Model
United Nations) and DEMs (Change the world for democracy), along with people doing something
and taking on new challenges or people that are not just standing still while the world goes on;
indeed, there are people getting informed and reading or people who are owners of their present
and, in particular, of their future, as well as people who believe that the place we live is nothing but
the mirror of who we are, so if we get better, the world will have a chance to get better, too. Along
with these people, there is me.
I believe in these values and in the power of politics, that is why I know that if I want to
achieve my dreams, I need to study. Therefore, I attend Prime Minister, the school of politics for
young girls. The place (sometimes virtual) in which you can speak with activists that worked for
laws or had to fight for human rights, sometimes crossing the world for their ideals. Before being a
Primer, I thought I could change the world, now I know that together, people like us, such as young
women, can do it.
In order to change the world, I want to give people the truth they deserve. That is the reason
why I have created the first real Ciociaria’s students journal, by hitting the stands every month.
Writing and free journalism are the highest representations of democracy on a regular basis.
My generation is also the artists’ generation, I have been attending festivals like the
Giffoni’s one (that is mostly required), since you cannot just talk to people who have won an Oscar,
you are given the chance to appreciate the pure beauty of art, that will save the world. I love art, but
I also love speaking, traveling and getting to know new people, so I take part in Radioimmaginaria,
the first European network managed only by guys from 11 to 17 years old.
I always say I am keen on breaking down platitudes, like the one of women in STEM. I have
been into the Italian Statistics Olympic games and in the competition I have proved 21st in Italy,
thanks to my position, my school (a classical high school) has been listed among the first 30 in
Italy, so we have been admitted to the group race. I have turned first in Italy thanks to a work about
gender discrimination and now I am working for the European competition. I would like to study in the USA, in an Ivy League’s University but I also know how
important is the enhancement of the place I come from so I am part of Lazio Youth Card, a
community of young people from Lazio I have been chosen to be the face of.
Growing up with the example of people like Angela Davis or Nellie Bly made me believe
that I can do it and that the world is not that bad.
