In the process of completing my studies of International Relations at the University of Blanquerna i Ramon Llull in Barcelona, I express my motivation to participate as an Ambassador for the Call for Global Peace. I believe to be a good candidate for the role of a Global Peace Ambassador given the knowledge that I have been able to acquire in the past three years of studying a degree in International Relations.
Given my studies and voluntary work I have undertaken, I have become quite passionate about the refugee crisis and its impacts on European societies, namely Spain. However, Spain does not only receive refugees but also a high number of migrants; in 2017, 8,000 people arrived to Spain through the sea across the Strait of Gibraltar. Many of them came from Africa or the Middle East, which has caused that racism and xenophobia be enhanced, and that they live in difficult conditions. For this, I started to get involved in campaigns with regards to humanitarian aid such as the collection of school materials for the Greece refugee camp, organized by the “Rebost Solidari” of Cerdanyola (Catalonia, Spain) organization. Moreover, I also supported the “Casa Nostra Casa Vostra” protest that took place in Barcelona on the 18th of February 2017, which was a call to the Spanish government to welcome more migrants and refugees. In this regard, I have also become quite passionate about the SDGs and the 2030 UN Agenda; namely SDGs 1 (no poverty), 2 (zero hunger), 4 (quality education), 5 (gender equality), 10 (reduced inequalities) and 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions. This is so given that I believe my country can benefit from those objectives and that they align with my professional and academic interests.
