Before deciding to act towards others, I first had to become a leader of my own life and mind while dealing with anxiety, which is why mental health is one of the prime issues I’ve been addressing as part of my activism. Thus, I joined some colleagues and created a group to spread awareness regarding this topic by looking for and promoting various kinds of therapy with free or reduced payment experiences to open public, in association with professionals from the Madalena Carcará Integrated Space. Still my journey goes back to 2016, when I had the opportunity to participate in an exchange program in England at 14, in which I learned people with different nationalities can bond over difficulties. Hence, when the refugee emergency became critical in Brazil (2017), me and my partners developed a service in which we mediate the communication process with the defenders and higher authorities of places where there is an overcrowded number of Venezuelans and people who offer them asylum or employment to restart their lives and gradually become independent, the “Sejamos um Refúgio” project, which got us nominated for the 2018 Piauí Social Inclusion Award. Currently, considering the COVID-19 crisis and the difficulties it implies on the safe interiorization of these people, I’ve been working on widening our network , so we’ve made a partnership with the Refúgio 343 organization in order to increase the efficiency of this initiative and reach more volunteers. A year after the creation of this project, I was chosen to participate in the first Brazilian Intercollegiate UN Simulation which made me perceive the lack of investment regarding youth empowerment and leadership in Brazil, especially in my own state, by experiencing how life changing it was for teenagers to address such important matters and gather knowledge and confidence from it, though most kids don’t have access to this kind of opportunity. Then, me and a group of friends and veterans created another proposal to establish our own simulation at school, which would slowly enable students from our whole community to take part in. This is my dream to connect with as many people as possible and exchanging something with them, whether it’ll be our own stories or giving each other a chance at something. In order to do so I’ve also prepared to and have recently been selected to participate in a Latin America Leadership Academy bootcamp, which will hopefully provide me with the required knowledge, tools and connections to effectively pursue this goal and the future ones I may nurture.
