My name is Guadalupe Malpica Gámez, I am 23 and I am a Mexican lawyer. I was born and rise in Culiacán, Sinaloa, this is a place worldwide known for the drugs organizations or for “El Chapo”; however, I believe that people from Sinaloa is not what the world think of them; we are hardworking people, we have a lot of values as respect, empathy, humanity, gratitude, humility, etc; we are good people that want to make the world a better place, but we are overshadowed for the bad fame of certain people that were born here too. For that reason, I feel that I must show the world the true nature of the persons of our land, so maybe if you know me a little bit, you´ll know more about Sinaloa´s people.
Well, as I said, I am a lawyer, I studied law because I want to defend people, I believe that human rights are one of the most important things that human beings have; and I am very interested in migration and refugee law, because I really want to protect people that can´t defend themselves. Nevertheless, I graduated this year, so I am begging with this, but I know that in the future, I will make more things and will protect more people than I am protecting right now. On the other hand, I have been working in certain local and international organizations, I have been volunteer in a local organization that helps animals that are in danger, I am part of “Centro de Estudios sobre la Enseñanza y el Aprendizaje del Derecho”, I was part of their first generation of “Programa Semilla”, on it, they selected 2 people from all the states here in Mexico, and they taught us how to fight corruption and how to be a good and ethic lawyers, so now I am part of that organization; In addition, I am international volunteer in “do something.org”, and I am a United People Global Sustainability Leader, so I am working in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Nowadays, my actual project is “Amando la lectura” this works like a bridge of light between kids from communities with violent environments and a place of peace with lots of knowledge. This project will help boys and girls that lives in difficult situations by providing spaces of peace (libraries); where they can read and learn different things to become great humans that helps others, because I am sure that if we provide libraries to communities with violent environments, then we will create people with human sense that will solve their communities ‘problems with the use of knowledge, values and love; I am a believer that education can change everything.
I am sure that we can make the world a better place for everybody, we only have to start making the change.
