GIOVANNA MARTINS SAMPAIO

Brazil

It has always been clear to me that I wanted to go to law school due to my compassionate but assertive personality. Since I was little, I have been a very reasonable, consistent and correct individual. Growing up, it became my declared goal to contribute somehow to reduce the injustices and inequalities which I lived every day. I wanted to learn how to implement and enforce the human rights and basic propositions for those who are most in need of them. Therefore, I desired to grasp and study as much as possible about the underlying ethical foundation of civil law systems in particular, and legal approaches and structures in general.
I have always been committed with qualified education, and I am constantly pursuing this as my top priority endeavor; I have a Bachelor Law degree from the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil, and a dual diploma from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, both of them earned on 2018; This dual bachelor degree provided me with the skill set and resources to understand different legal systems and allowed me to make my educational background more diverse and multidisciplinary, which, in my opinion, is one of the most important attributes to good practice in political affairs, justice, human rights law and global governance. Personally, this very unique experience of learning and surveying in a foreign country enabled me to significantly broaden my horizon and to acquire totally new perspectives. While studying at the University of Coimbra, I realized how a multicultural environment can be academically enriching and also understood that it is possible to make a difference wherever you are, even though seemingly small actions.
While attaining my degree, I also gained practical experience through professional training and academic internships in different public agencies and offices of the Brazilian Government, such as the Tribunal of Justice of the State, and the Public Federal Ministry – Extrajudicial Office for collective rights (focused on regional minorities). Those distinct perceptions taught me about administrative proceedings, as well as management schemes and legal procedures. During those involvements, I honed my practical, writing and logical thinking abilities, and I also learned to work in an efficient and independent way. I have recently finished an LLM program at the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, in International business law which prompted my to perceive the big picture surrounding Conflict management, assuring the implementation of rights;
Besides having volunteered in local philanthropic institutions working with storytelling for “special and differentiated” children, I also have taken part on the local AIESEC program, that alies exchange programs with social voluntary work; Further, I am a member of the Mediation and Conciliation team in my home Faculty, having participation in national moot competitions and simulations regarding those subjects matters;
Moreover, I am in the final stage of completing an academic master’s program in my home University in Bahia, Brazil, in the multidisciplinary area of IP, Technology and Innovation; In a medium-term future, I aspire to join a doctoral program in order to intensify my expertise and conduct empirical research to provide answers to the challenges of an ever-evolving world and its demand for more efficient legal and human rights exercise. It is my goal to learn the required tools and methodologies to be an active contributor to such an important endeavor.
Despite having studied different theories and practices in law, I believe that I am lacking very important tools such as advanced research methods, human rights law strategies, and peaceful disputes resolution mechanisms. I am convinced that participating in this Program will provide me with the up-to-date tools to be a leading force in this area.
At this stage of my life, I am seeking a novel academic, professional and personal challenge and I would appreciate a position to participate in the Global Peace Chain, and I believe I am ready to grasp this new experience and opportunity. Further, I believe I gather the academic background needed to be considered to join this team, and I consider my profile is distinctive and suitable to this project.
Thank you very much for considering my application and I hope to hear a positive response from you soon.

Respectfully Yours, Giovanna Sampaio.
