My name is Farid Zakir Ibrahim. I am from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, working as a Professional Officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs at the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (OIC), also known as OIC Youth Forum, an international institution affiliated with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and holding diplomatic status in the Republic of Turkey. Our mandate at the aforesaid institution is to work with the Youth from our Member States, composed of 56 Countries. I have encountered approximately five years in the diplomatic arena. My department is responsible for fulfilling the Secretariat functions in diplomatic gatherings and relations with the Member States and International Institutions, among other things. I pursued my Degree and Master’s Program in International Relations in Turkey. Similarly, as a graduate of International Relations and a Professional Officer in an International Youth Institution, I have developed good organizational and analytical skills.
I am a critical thinker with a firm grasp of the Middle East and Africa’s global geopolitical landscape and historical trends. I am an articulate communicator with strong analytical and relationship-building abilities.
My aptitude for research is demonstrated in my work as a professional Officer at the Department of Foreign Affairs, with additional skills in negotiation, lobbying, management and leadership.
I was awarded the best outstanding speaker at the Model OIC Executive conference, an initiative of the ICYF, and the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan conveyed the award to me. I have accomplished a few things since starting my professional career. I was among the team that works for the institution when applying for the Special consultative Status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC), and it was successful in 2020. I arranged the bilateral meetings between the President of the Institution and some Head of Sates and Ministers of Youth and Sports, and I was among the delegation that attended and supervised most of the Diplomatic Gatherings of the Institution. I attended and delivered a speech at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development under the Youth Engagement in Multi-lateral Process in achieving UN.
Agenda 2030 and some other speeches in the diplomatic gatherings.
The impact I envision is to help my community to learn from me what I learned, especially the local community. Through this Global Peace Ambassadorial task, I will learn how to develop a strategy or policy for the betterment of my community, which I am ready to serve. Afterwards, I will try my best to link international institutions and some local communities to organize training programs which will be a situation for both sides.
The United Nations has recognized the crucial role that young people can play in achieving the SDGs. In 2018, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on “Youth, Peace and Security,” which recognizes the critical
contributions of young people to building peaceful and inclusive societies. The resolution calls for greater participation of young people in decision-making at
all levels, including peace negotiations, political processes, and governance. We need to invest in youth-led organizations and networks, provide young people with the skills and resources they need to participate effectively in decision-making processes and create more opportunities for young people to engage in formal and informal policymaking processes at all levels of governance.
