Doreen Kalugira is a Tanzanian who holds a Bachelor of laws degree from the University of Dar Es Salaam, acquired in 2018. Her Knowledge and exposure to Gender law have ignited her passion to effectively address the problem of Gender based violence through creating awareness about the law.
In 2017, she chaired the writing of an article titled “Village Community Banks and land Tenure Laws” with the New Market Lab (Lids). Which aimed at addressing women land rights in Tanzania; she further took part in creating awareness about the law to women in Tanzania.
She is the chairperson of the Women of Influence, a community service organization under the Children’s Dignity Forum and Forward-Uk (Tuwezeshe Akina Dada).The community service organization aims at creating awareness about women and children rights against Gender Based Violence. Conducted in form of seminars, she is empowering women with knowledge and understanding through unveiling forms of domestic violence and rights by sharing experiences. Out of 40 women who attended the seminar 40% have been inspired to become community peer educators about women’s rights in households, 10% started income generating activities to have access to resources and improve their wellbeing through empowering their decision making abilities.
Further she has been creating awareness about burning issues within the society through the use of technology on her Instagram pages ie @Kalugira8l and the @Influencing _women. Currently she is participating in pandemic outbreak by undertaking taking online courses offered by the World Health Organization on COVID-19: Operational Planning Guidelines and COVID-19 Partners Platform to Support country preparedness and response, from that she has been recording encouraging video clips and posters aiming at encouraging community not to give up and insisting on taking precaution regarding the pandemic (COVID-19). . She strives to enhance her abilities.
