Born in Muar in 1986, I was raised in a poor family. Being the youngest girl in the family, my father retired as a primary school teacher when I was 10 years old. At the time, the retirement fund was only RM 580 to support the whole family’s living.
When I was a little girl, I often endured low self-esteem and always have to work part time to earn some living expenses for the family. I helped my father to teach tuition as home when I was 12-year-old. I started to enjoy teaching students with the influence of my father.
My secondary school was well known for “gangster school” where I had to study extremely hard by myself. I worked and studied at the same time extremely hard so I can complete my studies. At that time, I felt helpless as I knew no matter how hard I study, there was no money to support my tertiary education. I felt scared and reluctant to accept the fact that I did not have a chance to further my tertiary education.
Scholarship Changed MY Life Forever
However, earned a Full Scholarship by The Star Education Fund means a lot to me. My life was changed totally and I really cherished the opportunity given to me. In 2007, I have been conferred a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Accounting. I knew that the scholarship was not given to me but is given through me to help the children through education!!!
Furthermore, I was so lucky to win another Full Scholarship from MACC to further my Master of Commerce (Financial Planning) in Australia. I always feel very grateful as I think education and scholarship has changed my life meaningfully. Hence, now I am determined to enrich children’s life through education especially in the area of art and creativity.
Scholarship and education empowered my inevitable mission to help 1 million children in the world through education and promoting creativity in the country.
CSR Policies & Programmes
Currently, I am the managing director of Artivo School of Creativity. It was established in 2016 and now we are privileged to inspire thousands of children’s life using our creative art teaching approach every day with 19 centers in Malaysia. Besides teaching art, I always think to contribute more in social responsibility. Hence I initiated ARTIVO CSR programme in 2017. I think that helping or donating money to less-privileged children is not enough. So, I designed ARTIVO’s CSR policies and programme in line with the idea of “ children helping children”. It is more meaningful to lead our students to participate in our CSR programmes since young. We want to nurture them to be a greater person not only in academic but in life value such as generosity, sharing and love. It is also about our meaningful mission to lead our business partners (licensees) , parents, teachers, entrepreneurs and their families to service the humanity. Hence, ARTIVO’s CSR policy is to bring the value of CSR into our syllabus and event organised.
ARTIVO apportions part of our profits and human resources to organise the significant CSR event – Charity Annual Young Artist Exhibition. Over 2 years, more than 1,000 people participated in this event. We are mindful of our social responsibilities and we need to influence our young artists through our activities. We encourage our young artists to donate their art pieces for charity purpose. The proceeds of every art piece during our Young Artist Exhibition sold will be donated. We are proud of the achievement and generosity of our young artists.
We are honoured to be the largest organizer of Young Artist Charity Art Exhibition in Malaysia:-
1) 1st Annual Young Artist Exhibition – Nurture.Nature
It was held at Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre (KLPAC) in November 2017. There were more than 130 art pieces exhibited, which are produced by young artist from age 3 to 18 years old. There were more than 500 people participated in this event. The proceeds of RM 2,500 was raised and donated to SJK (C) Kepong 1 and 2 as building fund for its Multipurpose Hall.
2) 2nd Annual Young Artist Exhibition – My Love
It was held at Publika White Box, Kuala Lumpur in April 2019. There were more than 320 art pieces exhibited. The proceeds of the art pieces sold is donated to “Persatuan Insan Istimewa Cheras“. 33 art pieces were sold through this event, a total amount of RM 6,140.20 was raised.
This event was featured in Sin Chew Daily Newspaper.
3) 3rd Annual Young Artist Exhibition – Create4Unity
We were very honoured to get the green light from National Art Gallery Malaysia to organize our 3rd Annual Young Artist Charity Exhibition in 2020. However, the event was postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Our contribution to the community is closely related to our business, and we leverage on our strength as an art education provider to enrich the communities around us. Other than Charity Exhibition, we also organize activities like charity workshop, exhibitions, and give helping hand to help those who are in need.
Particularly, ARTIVO team also participated in social works such as:-
• Providing free craft classes to special needs students in SMK Sri Sinar Kepong
• Assisting Chinese government school i.e. SJK (C) Kepong 1 and 2 to raise building fund for its Multipurpose Hall.
• Guiding our students to wrap Christmas gifts and sending to children house
• Decorating children house and orphanage homes
• Organizing workshops and team building activities for less privileged children
In future, we hope we can collaborate and work together with more organization in corporate social responsibility projects and meaningful community program.
