I am a first-generation Kiwi-Punjabi born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. I am currently a fourth-year student at the University of Auckland doing a conjoint degree in Law and Arts, double majoring in Criminology and Sociology. I am also a volunteer at YouthLaw, an organization that provides free and accurate legal advice to youth in New Zealand who cannot afford a private lawyer and require help pertaining to issues regarding education, employment or crime. I have also been selected as a youth delegate for the Change the World Model United Nations conference in New York City – representing the Republic of Panama and drafting resolutions to key issues they face such as ensuring safety at their borders, protecting Blue Helmet aid workers and maintaining peace.
I have always been passionate about learning and believe that inspiration and knowledge can be found in the smallest of things, whether we look to the skies or down below where we stand, there is always something to learn. Growing up in New Zealand but maintaining a traditional background and close relationship to my Punjabi heritage has allowed me to marry those beliefs and nurture them through my education.
I believe a Global Youth Ambassador requires empathy and awareness – by forming bonds and meaningful relationships with others we can understand what key social issues must be faced in our modern society.
