My name is Daniel Rubens, I’m a young Brazilian activist, law student and founder of an impactful social project whose purpose is to reduce inequality through education and social justice. Since 2020, when I established the Young Leaders group, I have dedicated my work to the community, especially in accompanying families in situations of social vulnerability. Many of them face challenges such as lack of food security, access to quality basic education and basic sanitation. I believe that social inequality contributes significantly to the alarming rates of violence. Currently, my project focuses on mapping underprivileged communities in the Northeast of Brazil, proposing improvements through human development to improve the social conditions of these communities. As well as working directly with families in precarious situations, I am also a researcher associated with the research directory of Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. My research focuses on the precariousness of public policies on basic sanitation. When I founded my social project, I formalized a partnership with a global NGO called Hear The Cry, a non-profit association based in Portland, USA, with projects in various places around the world, such as India, Haiti and Uganda, recently arriving in Brazil, the objective has always been clear, to establish a strong partnership network focused on bringing assistance and development projects to poor communities. With Hear The Cry’s support, we were able to build three homes that were donated to families living in precarious conditions. In addition, I actively participated in fairs and congresses in Brazil, contributing to the dissemination of basic sanitation in the scientific world. Being part of the Global Peace Chain is an opportunity to share the sensitive reality of the Brazilian picture with different leaders and to take an inspiring baggage back to my community.
