My name is Benard Tangara , I was born in the western region of Kenya and currently in my final year pursuing a communication and public relations degree at Rongo university .
Being born in a low income and retrogressive community fueled by acts of violence in the name of seeking justice and addressing the country’s challenges as a result we have lost a number of young people in political riots and others who have actively taken part in orchestrating acts of violence extremism while others have been recruited in the violence extremist groups such as al-Shabaab in their bid to address the social, political and economic factors that they face on daily basis.
As a result two years ago I dedicated my course in championing for global peace and advocating against acts of violence extremism in my community as a member of Rongo university peace ambassadors Kenya in partnerships with Center for Media, Democracy, Peace & Security (CMDPS) and Yaden east Africa I spearheaded a team of young people in development debate(dev-debate) that aimed in radicalization of young people on economic drivers on violence extremism.
At Rongo university I’m also a member of the PAMBIO KENYA Rongo university chapter; a club for young people that is centered on addressing issues on climate change by advocating for environmental conservation and the reduction of the carbon foot print on the planet.
