I am ADNANE Asmae, I am a Moroccan living in Luxembourg. I am a water treatment engineer with professional experiences in the research field, I have worked on European projects, solving water pollution problems by designing innovative equipment to provide water with high quality and which respect the European standards.
I’m passionate about social entrepreneurship because I believe that is more than an economic activity –it gives society positive world-changing solutions at a time when we need them. I recently participated in the Watson institute basecamp where in a short period of time, my team and I, had to identify the main challenges facing our communities using the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, devised solutions for those challenges, developed a prototype, received mentoring, and presented the project to a panel of experts for a prize. We worked on solving the water scarcity problem by proposing an application for sustainable and clever management of water. This program gave me the chance to have the scholarship to continue my studies at the same institute on Entrepreneurship, innovation, and social impact for Spring 2021.
I have worked also with some organizations back in my university years such as ENACTUS which allowed me to work on social projects in rural areas in “Morocco». Also, I experienced volunteering with the French red cross to afford first necessities like food and clothes to people in need. And actually, I am a volunteer in the Serve the city organization in Luxembourg where especially in this hard period of time we come with help for the people in the streets…Volunteering gives me a sense of fulfillment and happiness since I believe that there is no better feeling than seeing the smile of gratitude. And I want to get the same feeling for my career dealing with water problems.
I am very interested in water issues especially, in developing countries, and the conflict around this precious resource since I think that we need to work quickly to solve water issues before it’s too late, and to make it accessible for countries in need today. Concerning the water conflict, I am trained about Environment, Natural Resources, and United Nations Peacekeeping Operations where I learned about water conflicts around the world and the role of UN peacekeeping to restore the governance of natural resources. This course gave me a lot of ideas about all the conflicts already existing and the one that could exist when water is scarce.
