My name is Achiri Emmanuel. I am a PhD candidate of International Relations with a specific focus on international law and human rights. I am currently writing my dissertation on voluntary repatriation and the securitization of refugees.
In 2018 I cofounded an NGO, VOIS Cyprus (https://www.voiscyprus.org/) which represents over 80,000 international students in Cyprus. Our main aim is providing a platform for international students and ensuring the rights of studnets are respected. This very same year, I also cofounded a think tank called SWCC (Stop the War in Cameroon Coalition) with the aim of conducting peace research and offering potential solutions to the crisis in Cameroon. We have published articles and organized conferences to discuss the crisis in Cameroon.
In 2019, I began consulting for the Refugee Rights Association in the northern part of Cyprus, the US Embassy Cyprus and the UNHCR. I offer translation services, as well as compile human rights reports on human trafficking, religious freedom, press freedom and police brutality. In 2021, I began collaborating with SeeD (https://www.seedsofpeace.eu/) to develop a context analysis framework for intervention in war torn areas.
I am a trained EU project consultant and expert, and I am currently implementing a three year EU funded project in Cyprus. Additionally, I train and offer technical support to NGO start ups on project writing and implementation, organization and management, advocacy and lobbying, and fundraising, among others.
In my personal time, I enjoy writing opinion pieces for newspapers on issues ranging from migration to human rights, and sometimes on football (soccer).
