Affirmative action for native is in the Constitution and centralize in Malaysia. From this led to a high percentage of indigenous students exclusive in university admission (quota system) and scholarship, since 1970s. The aim was to close the economic gap between native and non-native, especially Chinese. Still, 60 years after Malaysia was formed, the economic gap between native (Malay dominant) and non-native is the same. Yet, the quota system is still in place today. Worse, Malaysia even has universities funded by taxpayers but only enrols indigenous students. This is because indigenous people make up roughly 70% of Malaysia’s population, education has become a tool for certain political parties. Their vote matters for those in a power position.

This situation contrasts with SDG 4.5, eliminating education discrimination. This has rendered Malaysia’s education system unsustainable. Further, continual dissemination of misleading and false information by certain political parties for their benefit has shaken the harmony among Malaysia’s races. If SDG 4 is not achieved, doubt that it might endanger harmony in Malaysia. The current affirmative action in higher education shall consider replacing it with a focus on specific targeted disadvantaged communities, Further, this change is aligning with SDG 4.5.

More, I am also actively volunteered in the Nasional Cancel Society Malaysia event. Especially in tackling Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and helping Malaysia achieve universal health coverage event and patient navigator programs. This is in line with SDGs Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages. He just attended the World Cancer Congress in Geneva, organized by Union for International Cancer Control, under the full sponsorship of Nasional Cancel Society Malaysia. And also attended NCD Malaysia’s Universal Health Coverage Day.
