“I am Sharif Khoshnaw, young professional working in sustainability sector, especially environmental issues and global warming. I am a Chevening Scholar Awardee, UK Government’s Fully Funded Scholarship for international student’s year 2016, where I finished my master degree (MSc) in Renewable Energy and Resource Management gradated at University of South Wales, UK. I have a bachelor degree BSc Construction Engineering, from the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani.

Currently, I am an Environmental Lead for one of the US oil and gas companies in Iraq. I have more than 7 years of experience in environmental advising/consulting for local and international companies inside Iraq and Kurdistan Region.

I am also an ambassador for Iraq by the Scholarship Alumni Climate Change Hackathon 2021 funded by the UK government to help young professionals in each country propose solutions on any sustainable goals. Last year, with a college I participated in COP26 United Nations Climate Change in Glasgow, virtually, the hackathon and our proposal got finalized and to be implemented in the future in Iraq.

The proposal that currently I and working on the environmental issues such as temperature rising, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions due to the number of car increasing dramatically from 2002 to 2020 in Iraq due to many sectors, and peace between the countries and nations is one of the factors of focus.
Car number increasing has been causing the increasing of CO2 emissions rapidly, rising the temperature of Middle East more than double of the world rate increasing.
My project proposal to decrease the number of cars and plant trees for each car available to offset the CO2 released yearly by each car and for each car around 56 trees need to be planted to clean the air and balance the CO2 and Oxygen (O2) levels in the air.”
