Chamilah B. Rughony is a civil servant in the Mauritian Civil Service with more than three years of experience. In 2014, Chamilah graduated with a bachelor’s degree with honours in Public Policy and Governance at the University of Mauritius and consequently, with a First Class Master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Allahabad, India. She had been recipient of both the Mauritius Mutual Aid Foundation Scholarships and Africa Scholarship Scheme 2015-2016 by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Government of India. In 2021, Chamilah became a YALI RLC South Africa Alumi 2021 and had been selected to participate as a judge in The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2021. Chamilah is currently posted at the National Archives Department of Mauritius and acts as the President of the National Archives Staff Welfare Association. She is also an executive member of the Government General Services Union, member at the Aurora Toastmaster Club and founded “Ey twa Mauritius”, an online community project on mental health in Mauritius. Coming from a multi-racial background, Chamilah developed a strong sense of community building and believes that the stronger link that connects people is service to humanity.
