I have always been driven by the sense that injustice and inequality must be combatted in all their forms. That we live under the Rule of Law and not the rule of man offers a better window in the reality of our compassion and mercy as mere mortals. Yet, people who do not conform to established standards of society are more often than not disaffected, disenfranchised and disempowered. I have an innate desire to broaden my knowledge and knowhow in order to be in a stronger position to advocate for their rights and interests.
The pandemic has been a major disruptor to the way things were before. But it is only by steeling ourselves with resilience, perseverance and foresight that we will be able to overcome the myriad adversities it throws at us. Insofar as the law exerts a significant gravitational field on the social, economic and political architecture of society, it is the role of the majority to ensure that minorities are given equal access to the resources and opportunities that the nation can offer.

When policies, regulations and laws are designed to protect the interests of the majority only, the minorities inexorably suffer from more discrimination, disenfranchisement and disempowerment. It is to be hoped that, in a post-pandemic world, policy-makers will prioritize measures aimed at dismantling an outmoded prejudicial and capitalist system in favor of a more inclusive one geared toward the empowerment and promotion of the social, economic and political inclusion of marginalized people within society. This can only be achieved by remaining eternally vigilant in the face of rising populist governments across the world, and calling out their human rights abuses for what they are.
