Keneth Vincent Enico Aballe is a student-leader, activist, environmentalist and LGBTQ+ member from the Republic of the Philippines. He is 18 years of age and has been debating competitively for almost 6 years with accolades on his bag. As a student-leader, he was the former councilor to the Supreme Student Council of the University of San Carlos and likewise, an ex-officio President of DASIG Party, a progressive socio-political student party. Albeit, living in a heavily conservative country and studying in a premier Catholic institution, he never failed nor waivered his rights to express his opinions and outcries as an activist and LGBTQ+ member. As an activist, he is very involved and passionate on issues that involves his country’s freedom, peace and security through the expression of my utmost condemnation on issues such as “The Anti-Terror Law”, censorship of the press, resumption of peace talks between the government and rebel groups and the creation of an autonomous region that will safeguard the rights and hear the pleas of my Muslim brothers in Mindanao. As an environmentalist, he is part of the Cebu Environmental Network that protects nature’s interests against corrupt state policies in our province such that when the governor once ordered the cutting of hundreds of century-old trees for road-widening, he is one of the pioneers who led in gathering signatures that ultimately halted the cutting of the trees. As an LGBTQ+ member in a Catholic institution, he diplomatically pushed for dialogue and discussion within the institution that ultimately resulted to the creation of an inclusive organization especially created for LGBTQ+ members and our allies. He is a vibrant and empowered youth, leader and most especially, a son that envisions to lead the way in assuring that all will be better and brighter for our children’s sake and their children’s sake.
