I am Carmelo Jose A. Buhain is a licensed educator and a licensed nurse. I finished my Master in Education major in Health Education with units in Community Development at the University of the Philippines where I became a recipient of the University Scholar and University of the Philippines Presidential scholarship award. I am an active Out-of-School Youth and Adult (OSYA) education and Drug Abuse Prevention Education advocate. I started serving as OSYA at the age of 19 where my perspective in life was change drastically. In my 7 years of service as Out of school youth and adult educator, I have been a witness of thousands of lives being changed by bridging opportunities and rekindling hope through OSYA education. Serving the least, the last and the lost of our society enlightened me that education is not limited to the four corners of the classroom, those OSYA that I served honed me to become who I am today.
I attended several International seminars, trainings and conferences, I recently presented my research entitled “Factors Influencing Non-use of Drugs Among Filipino Male Out-of-school Youth” in The International Conference on Education and Research in Seoul National University Republic of Korea and Joint Multidisciplinary Research Conference in Singapore. In my pursuit of making significant change and contribution to society and an advocate of a drug-free community, I even awarded by the International Youth Committee as Asia Inspiration Award 2018 in Colombo Sri Lanka.
At present, aside from being the Administrative Head of the Global Reciprocal Colleges, serving as coach in Community-Based Drug Recovery Program of the Psychological Association of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University while being a Preceptor and SGD Facilitator in the same school, i am incline in exploring other issues concerning drug use in the Philippines particularly those that can help provide evidence on the effectiveness of local drug prevention initiatives while finishing my Doctor of Public Health in the University of the Philippines as scholar.
