I was born and raised in a Bataknese Christian family but exclusivity and intolerance have never been parts of him. I spent his childhood in a diverse neighborhood where Moslem families would visit Christian families during Christmas and Christian families will help to prepare meals for fast-breaking during Ramadhan. This experience has shaped the way I think about tolerance and diversity.
Having an uncle who’s working in a humanitarian organization and hearing stories from him about people’s experiences from another side of the world, has sparked a really strong desire in me to bring a better cause for the society, especially the one who is struggling. When it came to choosing a major in college, I combined his passion for science and his desire to help the society to plan a path for his vision and he chose food science and technology field to begin his journey.
I considered my time in college as an arena for learning and teamworking. I’ve been the part of various organizations, such as International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS) and Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) Brawijaya University. Being enrolled in these organizations, I got the precious opportunity to work as a team with so many amazing and passionate people from various study backgrounds and places.
I also volunteer in the Christian church of Indonesia, Bromo Malang, as a Sunday school teacher and as a youth community organizer. While in this particular church, I worked in a various program with another religious group within an interfaith forum to promote inclusivity,
Right now, I’m trying to build a healthy food business and found a non-profit organization of a free speech stage to promote new perspectives on various things. I believe that by continually exercising faith in constant effort to bring a better good for the world and I believe that the world can be better over time with everyone on it doing their best.
