Global Peace Summit Johannesburg South Africa 2019

Global Peace Summit South Africa 2019, held in Johannesburg, brought together passionate youth from over 65 countries to examine the evolving concept of peace and its place in the global system. The discussions explored whether peace can truly be achieved without first understanding its core identity and how the absence of a clear definition can hinder action. Participants examined how peace-related challenges like poverty and gender inequality demand coordinated action and rethinking of current global mechanisms. Moreover, emphasis was placed on how international institutions must evolve to support unity in addressing worldwide conflict and climate instability. Through guided sessions, group tasks, and cultural presentations, young voices found room to reflect and collaborate. Diplomats, economists, and social workers contributed real-world perspectives that grounded the sessions in practicality. The summit highlighted peace not just as a goal, but as a process shaped by identity and collective action. By the end, delegates walked away with new tools and renewed commitment toward community-led change that feeds into the broader aims of the UNSDGs.
