My Name is Lejla, I am 24 years old and I live in Stuttgart, Germany. I studied Interdisciplinary American Studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and finished my Bachelor degree with excellent performance four months ago. After the completion of my studies, I immediately received a job offer and now work as a professional in the field of communication and social collaboration at VECTOR Informatik GmbH. Thanks to my interdisciplinary studies I got the chance to combine cultural, political, and economic subjects in- and also outside America. Additionally to my mandatory study courses, I voluntarily completed three different certificates: intercultural competence, business and management, communication and rhetorics. This diverse program opened many doors for me and helped me to seize the opportunity of gaining work experience (internships, roles as working students) at different fields and companies including DAIMLER, BOSCH (foundation), and VECTOR Informatik. In my role as a working student at the BOSCH foundation I worked in the team of civil society which introduced me to the world of social funding and social projects dealing with peace maintenance, social cohesion, and cultural education. As a working student, I used to assist the project managers in their selection process of projects and applicants management. As someone with a migratory background (from Bosnia/Serbia), the refugee crisis in 2015 in Germany had a great impact on me and inspired me to help others coming from a war zone longing for peace and stability. As a result, in my free time I use to help in our local refugee accommodation. Giving German language courses for children and adults is a small contribution from my side but a big contribution in the lives of many refugees fostering their social inclusion and participation.
