Jonas Tavares, 20 years old, from Brazil, is a young activist with a great desire to make a big impact in the world. Since very little, Jonas has seen education as a tool to change his life and reality, and the society. Despite being born and raised in a very poverty-stricken neighborhood in the outskirts of Brazil, he rose through he studies and became the first and only in his family that finished high school. He felt a call to stand for social rights and fight poverty and inequality. He has taken advantage of the opportunities given to him, and he was able to study abroad as an exchange student in the United States and China during high school. Jonas is currently attending College of the Ozarks in Missouri, U.S; He is a History and Spanish double major. Jonas has a special passion about the world and advocates for Global Peace. In 2017, Jonas presented a project about Justice and Peace for World Merit in London, and he was also an attendee at Latin American Leadership Academy, in Medellin, Colombia, in the same year. In 2018, Jonas attended World Youth Forum, a Global Peace Conference held in Egypt, with the presence of the Egyptian President. Jonas actively participates in various volunteering activities and delivers motivational speeches at public schools to inspire the youth to take part in the change of their communities and realities. Jonas speaks 4 languages – Portuguese, English, Spanish and Chinese, and plans to become a diplomat in order to promote peace through international relations and diplomatic missions.
